Marvel Ends Open Submissions Policy
Due to an unprecedented number of unsolicited art and writing submissions, Marvel has altered its open submissions policy effective immediately. Marvel has remained the only major publisher to continue accepting open submissions, however that practice has been halted as we review our strategies for accepting future submissions.
Marvel has a proven track record of attracting new and emerging talent and does not plan on ending those efforts in any way.
“If you look at our track record over the last 18 months, I think you’ll find the names of more new writers and artists in Marvel books than ever before. Maybe more than at any other major comic book publisher, as a matter of fact,” says Marvel Talent Liaison C.B. Cebulski. “We pride ourselves on finding new voices and artistic styles to help us shape the Marvel Universe in original and exciting ways. And while the hunt for new artistic resources to help us ever expand the Marvel mythos will continue, we’ll just be going about it in different ways. We’ve examined all our past practices concerning talent recruitment and it quickly became clear that more ‘reactive’ methods such as open submissions were the least effective ways to open the Marvel door for up-and-comers. So instead we’ll be continuing with the more ‘proactive’ methods of artist and writer discovery that we’ve found so successful of late, including some soon-to-be-announced new outlets.”
An interview with a Hal Foster Prince Valiant collector
Prince Valiant began in full color tabloid sections on Saturday February 13, 1937. The first full page was strip #16, which appeared in the Sunday New Orleans Times Picayune. The internal dating changed from Saturday to Sunday with strip #66 (May 15, 1938). The full page strip continued until 1971 when strip #1788 was not offered in full page format—it was the last strip Hal Foster drew. The strip continues today by other artists in half page format.

Batman has a Potty Mouth, says DC Comics
In past decades, Batman was G rated. Adam West and Burt Ward, in the popular Batman TV show of the mid-1960s, barely got away with Gosh and Darn.
But this is a new millennium, and times have apparently changed… as has the vocabulary in Batman comic books.
A printing error, which DC Comics says involves the black boxes that were supposed to be placed over R-Rated words, has store managers across the nation pulling tens of thousands of batman comics off the shelves.

Based on the number of Ebay listings for All-star Batman and Robin #10, many retailers are not destroying the copies, but rather selling them with their personal Ebay accounts.
There are currently more than 120 listings for the issue on Ebay, with prices ranging from $5 to $150 for a variant cover.
The reprints are expected in stores within a few weeks. A copy of the recall notice sent to Diamond Comic Distributor’s Inc. customer’s is below:
Dear Diamond Customer:
Please be advised that copies of DC Comics’ ALL-STAR BATMAN & ROBIN THE BOY WONDER #10 (FEB080203-4D) may be included in your September 10 shipment.
At DC’s request, please do not place this book out for sale to your customers. Instead, please destroy any copies that you receive. You will be credited for these copies on your September 17 invoice.
Diamond apologizes for any inconvenience this creates for you or your customers. If you have additional questions, please contact your Diamond Customer Service Representative. Thank you.
